Get in Tune for the Black Moon

black-moon-photo-photography-Favim.com-642429Black Moon is a term for the second new moon within a calendar month. Black  moons occur about every 29 months.  The next black moon will take place on August 21, 2017 in conjunction with the Great American Eclipse.  According to Mind, Body, Greenyour emotions are amplified during the new moon period, so it is important to focus on being calm so that negative emotions are not magnified.

In today’s  high paced environment, advice to stay calm may seem redundant.  We’ve heard the mantras to do yoga, meditate, walk in nature, etc. These are all helpful, but we can get caught up in day to day life and forget to set aside time for those activities.  Ideally, we should always nurture ourselves and strive for  serenity, whether there is a new moon  or not. Besides the obvious stress relievers, think about your health.  images

Do we really feel calm and centered when we have headaches, digestive issues or overindulge in food and alcohol? Some of us  may have the fortitude to feel  relaxed when our bodies are under stress, but I think we can concur we feel best mentally when our physical bodies are free of pain.  A highly recommended documentary is:  What the Health?  It gives ground breaking nutritional advice to feel better.  There is also cutting edge research on Acemannan, a component of the aloe vera plant that helps the body restore gut health.

Now that we are aware of the upcoming black moon on August 17, 2017 and have ideas to prepare for it, the question remains as  to why we should be in tune for the Black moon or any new moon. I do not claim expertise in planetary studies, but as a student, I like to share what I have learned.

vision-board

The first new moon in the calendar month preceding the black moon occurred on July 23, 2017.  During this time, we should “lay low,” reflect and not start anything big.  It’s an especially good time to pray, meditate, nap and avoid anything that will clutter our brains.  This is a preparation for the exciting changes that could happen in our lives for the period starting with the black moon and into the next two and a half years.  If you have not made a dream/vision board, do so now.   Make sure your dreams are followed by an action plan. No goal is achieved just by wishing for it. Jack Canfield is an expert with great ideas on how to make the most of your dreams.  No dream is too big!  Do not let limiting thoughts hold you back.  If you truly believe, you can achieve!

Blue and What It May Mean to You

blue moon

With the advent of the Blue Moon approaching, a curiosity arose within me as to how this could affect us. Then, I began thinking of the word “blue‘, the personalities associated with the color, the emotions it can stir and how it is used in Feng Shui. Blue is also the title of one of my favorite songs, performed and penned by the Jayhawks.

The first thing I learned is rarely a blue moon  blue! The blue moon is an “extra” full moon in the calendar cycle. This occurs every two to three years, hence the term “once in a blue moon.”  Our next blue moon is happening on July 31, 2015, with the following blue moon showing its’ face in 2018. It would be spectacular to see a beautiful blue moon this week, but in actuality, it will be a “normal” looking full moon.  The moon does appear to be blue in select atmospheric conditions, like a volcano.

Oftentimes people refer to unusual events with the remark “there must be a full moon.” Statistics by scientists do not support this theory  but the full moon does affect some animal behavior.  The idea that our bodies are over 75% water, thus having “tides” affected by the moon as does the ocean, has been discredited.  However, most law enforcement personal and emergency room staff will attest to more unusual occurances on a full moon evening.

Astrologists believe the moon and planets do affect the Universe and all it contains. For example, Venus is in “retrograde” (appearing to move backwards). This, in conjunction with the full moon, is said to create some strong aspects involving relationships. The blue moon in Aquarius, in addition to retrogrades of other planets, has been referred to as “planets colliding.” It is supposed to be a time to take notice, make changes, and no longer put off doing things that need to be done to advance ourselves.

Practitioners of  “Color Psychology” have related certain traits to people choosing blue as their favorite color, Among those traits are;  loyalty, genuineness and sincerity. A person associated with “blue” is also said to think before they speak, are conservative, have a need for peace, are vulnerable without appearing to be so,and caring. The downside of this personality and be rigidity, moodiness and manipulative tendencies.

Feng Shui experts have their own theories about the color blue. In Feng Shui, there needs to be a balance of the five elements:  earth. fire, water, wood and metal. Blue represents the water element. The water element is about the sky and tranquility. It is a good color to put in the “family” area of your home and should also be used next to a wood element, as water nourishes wood.

People oftentimes use the phrase “feeling blue” to describe sadness or depression.  This doesn’t jibe with other associations with blue. After some research, I found that in old seafaring days, if the captain of the ship died at sea, blue flags were flown. After arriving at port, a wide blue stripe would be painted on the vessel to signify the demise of the captain, thus came the expression “feeling blue.”

Are there things you would like to experience more than “once in a blue moon?”  Most of us would answer that with a resounding “yes!”  Many of us talk about taking more vacations and end up in a “staycation” due to chores we feel need to be done or fear of going over budget. Now is the time to change that!
